Coming off the high of winning the City of Port Phillip Business Excellence Award for Tourism, a week later sees Melbourne’s only carbon neutral backpacker hostel proud to announce securing the STAY WYSE Green Initiative Award for 2012.
Through the Green Initiative Award, STAY WYSE recognizes Habitat HQ for its impressive dedication to eliminate carbon output and its commitment to educate staff and guests alike on reducing environmental impact. Making “green travel” an integral part of their operational activities, Habitat HQ takes pride in being a sustainable business and participating at a local level working as part of the global community.
The award was announced at the annual World Youth and Student Travel Conference (WYSTC) in San Diego at the Industry Awards Luncheon on Friday September 21, 2012.
The green page on www.habitathq.com.au details the extensive measures that Habitat HQ have taken to demonstrate their commitment and passion in environmental sustainability. As a recognised industry leader in sustainable travel, Director Peter Beaconsfield comments “We set ourselves the goal of being carbon neutral by 2013 and happy to report we achieved the outcome a year earlier! We demonstrate our commitment as strong advocates by adopting innovative technologies and practices. Our carbon management plan monitors energy, water and waste consumption as critical components of carbon management principles. Our environmental policy and our environmental and sustainable purchasing policy guide our business decisions every day.”
