Skytrans today announced that the airline will commence weekend services to Mount Isa and the Gulf of Carpentaria communities of Doomadgee, Burketown, Gununa (Mornington Island) and Normanton beginning next month.
“Responding to the needs of people is something that Skytrans has always strived to do. By providing weekend services to these locations we feel that this schedule offers more flexible travel solutions to communities that rely on our services on a daily basis,” said Skytrans’ Managing Director Simon Wild.
“This announcement means that Skytrans will be able to provide services to most of these communities seven days a week.”
Mr Wild confirmed the introduction of these new services is a direct result of a consultation process that has been conducted throughout the region over the past six months.
Mr Wild continued, “Skytrans has taken the time to listen to people, and the challenges they face living in these remote and isolated parts of the state. This approach has resulted in the decision to adjust our schedule.”
Skytrans’ new services will depart Cairns on Saturdays at 9.30am arriving into Mount Isa at 11.35am, before connecting on throughout communities in the Gulf of Carpentaria and arriving back into Cairns at 6.00pm. The Sunday service will depart Cairns at 8.30am, travel through the Gulf of Carpentaria arriving into Mount Isa at 1.40pm, before connecting back to Cairns with an arrival time of 4.15pm.
