Pilbara region in Western Australia will get a $65 million boost by a Hilton funded development to open a DoubleTree by Hilton in Karratha.
The eight-storey building is the first Hilton property in the Karratha commercial area and will feature 144 guest rooms, 20 apartments, an all-day dining restaurant and bar, fitness centre, outdoor pool, three function rooms and car parking facilities.
Growth in the Pilbara region’s resource sector has pushed for growth of infrastructure and amenities which according to minister for Regional Development and Lands Brendon Grylls, is currently sub-standard conditions.
“It’s an example about how, not the government but the private sector, is embracing the opportunities of the Pilbara,” Mr Grylls said of the announced development.
Mr Grylls believes it sends the message to Australia about where WA and the Pilbara region is heading, as a “resource powerhouse”.
A Hilton spokesman told Perthnow the hotel will meet the needs of the local community and the resources industry through its design and was confident the property will quickly become a leading full-service hotel in the market.Approximately 100 staff from the Karratha region will be employed by the hotel, sourced from hospitality agencies and Broome’s TAFE.
