Punjab tourism to receive heritage boost

Hoping to give tourism and commercial boost, the local Government and tourism leaders in Punjab are planning to promote travel into the region.

Announced earlier this week, State Tourism Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur explained tourism in Punjab would be promoted through a commercial angle, utilizing allocated funds for the sector, Business Standard reported.

He said he had recently met with Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to discuss tourism in the state, the importance of marketing and pushing on the region’s pilgrimage and heritage tourism.

"A heritage village is coming up in the holy city of Amritsar,” he said.

“Other holy cities in state are being declared heritage sites while Kartapur has already been given this status.”
