Demand for travel to Burma is booming, according to Australia’s leading Asia travel specialist, Travel Indochina, prompting the company to add three additional guaranteed Small Group Journey departures to its 2012 schedule.
Travel Indochina’s Managing Director, Paul Hole, says since opening, the nation has captured travellers’ collective imaginations, making it a highly popular destination.
“Unprecedented demand for Burma has led us to make arrangements to offer additional Burma Revealed departures through October, November and December,” says Hole.
“But the increase in tourism is a double edge sword in some respects, as the country comes to grips with demand that is far outstripping supply. In fact so much so, initially we were led to believe we wouldn’t be able to secure product for additional departures. Fortunately, we have been successful in growing our offering, however as part of our responsible tourism ethos, we work continuously to ensure we minimise our footprint in the destinations we travel to and provide benefit at the local level.
“This philosophy translates into not overburdening our local suppliers, meaning we are only adding incrementally to our schedule to allow them to keep pace. It also means working almost exclusively with private local operators so we contribute to the local livelihoods.
“Also, as is the case in all our destinations, we do not speculate about hotel availability, because we secure and advise hotel names and room types at time of booking. We have taken the additional step of prepaying deposits for accommodation in Burma to ensure our clients and travel agents are not disappointed with last minute surprises.”
Travel Indochina’s additional 13 day Burma Revealed journeys depart 15 October, 19 November and 31 December 2012. Prices for remaining 2012 journeys start from $2240 per person twin share, with October – December journeys starting from $2855 per person twin share.
The company’s Small Group Journeys have been running at full capacity, with tours sold out on average two – three months prior to departure.
